Auriol Innes
I graduated from Durham University in 1982 with a degree in English Literature and Language. My early career was in publishing, followed by a period of training and self-employment as a textile designer and printer.
My journey as a painter began at a Life Drawing evening class in Peckham in 1987, taught by Frances and Sargy Mann. They imbued in me such a powerful sense of curiosity about the process of looking, drawing and finding a truthful visual language, that I am still firmly a traveller along that road. I was also fortunate in meeting Susannah Fiennes and her contemporaries who had studied with Euan Uglow at the Slade School of Art. With their encouragement I dedicated myself to painting; to quote Sargy Mann, from a conversation between us which proved influential... ’At the end of the day, every painter must go out into the wilderness and paint and I think you are ready for that…’
I have been exhibiting my work regularly since 1992. I currently exhibit with The Piers Feetham Gallery in London as well as taking part in regional exhibitions.
COMMISSIONS
