This body of work forms a deeply felt narrative of place; a journey beginning with the collected ‘flotsam’ in the recesses of a wind-dried house, expanding out to the landscape beyond. I have been fascinated by the interaction between the interior and exterior world, fragments of the landscape framed in the windows, reflection, animals looking in, the house infused with Hebridean light. Beyond the protective steading lies a peninsula swept by great banks of cumulus or veils of rain…
“The paintings in this exhibition show that Auriol never allows her mastery of the painter's grammar to inhibit her natural agility and raw feeling for the substance of paint: they represent a celebration of both paint and place.”
